April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and piano lessons, sparking her passion for writing songs. April Lockhart composed her first song, Different at the age 12 years old. When she was 14 April spent a lot of her time creating song concepts and practicing the music she was playing. Over the next few months, she started taking writing excursions with her father to LA and NY. April also added additional themes to the song "Take My Hand" for a few of her friends who dealt with problems like peer pressure, disabilities, and even teens who committed suicide. Lockhart is a lifestyle and beauty influencer with an ever-growing number of followers. She works with popular brand Ilia together, and is also a lifestyle expert. Her birth was without a left hand and that is an aspect of her identity, but it's hardly her whole story. The profile of Lockhart on Instagram does not conceal her handicap, but it doesn't just focus on her disability. What message is it sending? We are all more than our physical selves. The identities we have are complex and encompass a variety of dimensions. Lockhart states in the video Lockhart via video "I do not believe that disability is what defines my character. I don't intend to be an influencer on disability because I have many more things to contribute." The issue doesn't affect my everyday life. I go about my business as usual and have come up with different ways of adapting. It's also part of me so I think that it's crucial to speak about. Lockhart is a great example of how to stay moving forward with self-acceptance. She still admits having gone through a series of phases regarding her appearance, feeling uncomfortable in certain situations wearing clothes that showed the arms of her. Now she wears whatever outfit she likes and uploads photos on her Facebook page with pride. To her, self-love was a long trip. This is true for everyone, regardless of how much they are afraid. It is essential to surround yourself with those who are able to understand you.
